Welcome to The Waterman Chronicles
A gallery and archive of New Zealand clay, pottery, ceramics, sculpture, poetry, computer art, space and earth-orbit images, writing and inspiration by NZ artist John Waterman.
I like to share what inspires me. I don't get too caught up about whether what you find here is right or wrong, good or bad, politically correct or not - a fuzzy universe allows for all possibilities. Learning, like life, is a fractal process each individual must embark on for themselves - you ride the wave of your own intelligence. Where any content or work is not my own and the source is known, I'll say so. The Waterman Chronicles continues to be a work in process. Enjoy, and thanks for visiting.
NZ studio pottery and ceramics
Having explored - with the help and generosity of other New Zealand potters - the gamut of diesel, wood, LPG and electric-fired clay, I've assembled a small gallery of my own work - a collection of pottery, ceramics and stoneware pots fired in oxidising and reduction atmospheres from 1100 to 1300ºC. Some pieces have had additional lustre and enamel firings.

New Zealand poetry by John Waterman
Poems that explores the human and societal shadow - poetry that attempts to penetrate that which we; as individuals and as a society; lock in "the basement below the basement" - out of sight and rarely investigated. Bringing light into this darkness tends to dissolve political correctness and reveals the inauthentic masks with which we overlay the raw fact of our primate being. Take the journey and grow.

Notes To Myself
A collection of writings, stories, ideas and insights. In our culture almost all the old mentors - the wise old men and women filled with rich teaching and knowledge - have been pushed aside. The cellular learning that happens when you stand next to a mentor for long periods of time has been replaced by a kind of shallow pseudo-teaching that devolves into the frantic rush for survival, money, position and power - an extremely leaky boat indeed. Notes to Myself is a sort of brain jogger and mental dust-buster - a reminder that when I take one step toward the soul it will step toward me a hundred.
